Punjab govt to invite bids for 300 MW 

biomass power plants (30th July)

Having already handed over letter of awards to 26 

private developers for 250 MW solar power 

projects, Punjab is now all set to harness bio-mass 

energy. The state government is planning to invite 

bids for 300 MW bio-mass power plants to be set 

up in the state. Till date, the state has harnessed 

569 MW in the renewable energy sector, of which 

62.5 MW has been set up in in bio-mass power.

RIL to produce 100 barrels of oil a day 

from algae biofuel plant at Jamnagar, 

Gujarat (Published on: 15th July)

RILis tapping new energy sources for its refinery 

and petrochemicals project in Gujarat. Two Biomass, Biofuels & Waste to Energy

months ago, the company launched a pilot "algaeto-oil" project at a 100-acre facility near Jamnagar 

that houses the world's largest single-location 

refining complex. The company aims to produce 

100 barrels of oil a day from the plant shortly.

Indian states fail to implement e-waste

Most of India's states have failed to implement ewaste rules in the country which came into being 

in 2011, according to the study 'E-waste 

Management in India - Role of State Agencies' by 

Toxics Link. The study exposes the lack of effort 

and action by most state pollution control boards 

and committees.

TN govt constitutes state-level body to 

monitor plastic waste management

Tamil Nadu has constituted a State Level Advisory 

Body to monitor the implementation of the Plastic 

Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2011. 

The constitution of the advisory body with the 

local administration department secretary as its 

chairman has been notified by the government
